BERLIN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) — Germany’s 5G availability has risen to approximately 92 percent as it implements its Gigabit Strategy, according to a report released Monday by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV).
The Gigabit Strategy, introduced in 2022, aims to accelerate the development of high-performance, future-proof digital infrastructures across the country.
“Germany is fully on track with the expansion of its digital infrastructure,” said Volker Wissing, Germany’s federal minister for digital and transport, describing the country as one of the European leaders “in the expansion of the 5G mobile network.”
With just a year remaining in the current legislative period, the report indicated that 87 percent of the planned 100 measures to implement the strategy have either been launched or completed.
According to the report, fiber optic connections are now available to nearly one in three households in Germany, a progress that the European Commission has described as “spectacular.”
Wissing expressed confidence that the interim target of achieving fiber optic coverage for half of all households by the end of 2025 is likely to be met. ■
